Engagements
In 2023 we have been busking in Fareham Town Centre and given an informal outdoor performance at Saint Mary's, our rehearsal base.
We were the musical finale at Gosport's Winterfest beer festival (see you next year!)
We have played for Naval mess dinners and the Coronation celebrations at the Institute of Naval Medicine.
We emphasise the pleasure and fellowship of music while aiming for high standards of musicianship and professionalism.
Bob, our nonagenarian drummer, says 'Hello!'
Bob is a volunteer with English Heritage. You are likely to meet him if you venture into the keep at Portchester Castle.
David, Our Lead Trumpet Player
Photo: David, arriving for band practice on a fine evening early in September. What do we know about David?
Legs! He is a dinghy sailing instructor, which probably explains his fashion choice.
Music - Past. Youth brass bands and Royal Navy volunteer bands.
Music - Current. 'Bumper up' in Gosport Solent Brass although he does not participate in contests; he says he just plays for fun, for an audience, and for cash!
Music - Current. Starlight Big Band: any horn part that does not need improvised solos. 'I leave those to the talented youngsters!'
Kit - Trumpet. B&S Challenger which he picked up on eBay for £350. He nicked his Monette B3S3 mouthpiece from his son who is a professional trumpet player: Dan Gray.
Kit - Cornet. He paid £70 by cheque for his second hand Donald E Getzen Signature cornet circa 1986. They have travelled the World together and performed in Australia, Singapore and the final year of the Royal Tournament at Earl's Court.
Other Roles. Band secretary; you will meet David if you contact us. As our 1st trumpet he is influential during rehearsals and he leads our performances.
